Employee Interview
Markus Braun

“DESMA IS UNIQUE TO ME!”

Employee interview with Markus Braun, Head of the IT Department, on the occasion of his 10-year company anniversary at DESMA.

MARKUS, HOW DID YOU COME ACROSS DESMA?

Already at an early age I was interested in everything about computers, so that it was always very obvious o me to turn my hobby into my profession. In many internships I looked into the very different worlds of IT, from the typical “hardware forge” to software companies. While strolling through the training fair in Tuttlingen in 2008, I became aware of DESMA in Fridingen and actively informed myself about the company and the IT job profile in the

company itself. Thereupon I was fascinated to get to know information technology at a mechanical engineering company and applied at DESMA for an internship. In response to my application, I was made aware of an apprenticeship position as an information technology clerk whichhad been advertised at short notice, and I decided without further ado to do the apprenticeship at DESM instead of studying.

WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE EXPERIENCE SO FAR?

Besides the many successful projects that I was able to  implement so far, other interpersonal events have remained in my memory, such as the confidence placed in me to take over a leading position, the very instructive moments within a very interesting training program, many valuable tips from experienced DESMA employees for the development of a young DESMA executive, the support and backing I received during my

studies, and in particular getting to know the people in the company itself, who make DESMA so unique and interesting to me. However, there is one experience in particular which I like to remember. In 2015, DESMA celebrated the big 50 -year anniversary. It was impressive to see with how much pride and enthusiasm we prepared and celebrated the festival together and the DNA of DESMA was presented.

WHAT IS DESMA LIKE FOR YOU?

To me, DESMA is a modern and flexible company with a constant eye on the latest innovations and constructive change – not only in the product, but also in the process design and the organization. That means a daily challenge to my responsibility, which in turn keeps the tension, not to stop enjoying work by being able to actively participate in the change

process. The past 10 years at DESMA have also shown me that the untiring commitment and the high flexibility of the employees at DESMA have only made this corporate culture possible – because people are not forgotten!

HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPANY?

I started my apprenticeship (2008) when the entire world capital market had a crisis and I apparently selected the most unfavorable time for a start – at least I thought so. However, it was much more interesting to see and actively participate in getting rid of this then highly depressed market situation, because high value continued to be placed on innovation & growth through investment. Since then we have experienced a very positive development of the market, under which DESMA has emerged

stronger than ever and, especially with the early introduction of many digital software products as technical innovation drivers of the digital age, has further extended its leadership claim as a market and technology leader in the niche market of injection molding machines for elastomers.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE?

With the global introduction of the SAP S/4HANA ERP system, DESMA is facing the largest IT project in the company’s history, which I will actively support.

I am looking forward to this great challenge and to a further interesting, exciting and instructive time at DESMA!
